Zhang Yi Conducts DebussyYoung conductor Zhang Yi is with considerable influence in China’s music circle. Many music works are China premièred by him, including Mozart’s Great Mass in C Minor, Stravinsky’s L’historie du Soldat,/i>, and Chen Qigang’s Extase. In the first half of the concert, harpists Xavier de Maistre and Sun Zhiyang will two harp concertos, respectively by 19th-Century English harpist Elias Parish Alvars and a leading French opera composer François-Adrien Boieldieu. French impressionist composer Debussy is good at presenting a colorful picture by varied notes. Themed with “cloud”, “festival”, and “sirens”, the composer drew a orchestral triptych and added femle chorus without text in the last movement. With a large structure, La mer, which was composed in 1905, describes three sides of the sea with its three movements. Zhang Yi leads the SSO for the Shanghai performance.
